Donald E Booth

Washington — President Obama announced his intention December 9 to nominate veteran diplomat Donald E. Booth, the current United States ambassador to Zambia, as the next U.S. ambassador to Ethiopia.

Ambassador Booth, who is also a former ambassador to Liberia, previously served as director of the Office of Technical and Specialized Agencies in the State Department’s Bureau of International Organization Affairs.

Prior to serving in this position, he was director of the Office of West African Affairs. He has also served in other positions at the State Department, including deputy director of the Office of Southern African Affairs, economic counselor in Athens, division chief for bilateral trade affairs, desk officer in the Office of Egyptian Affairs and the Office of East African Affairs, and various roles while stationed at embassies in Bucharest, Brussels and Libreville.

Booth earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University, a master’s degree from Boston University and a master’s degree in national security studies from the National War College.

Donald E. Booth was confirmed by the United States Senate on June 04 and attested by President George W. Bush on June 06, 2008 as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America.

Ambassador Booth is married to Anita Booth and they have three children.
